KC Design Week 2013 - Monster Drawing Rally

Design Week is once a year, where all creative disciplines come together and put on a variety of events - presentations, lectures, shows, etc.  It kicked off last weekend in near downtown KC with the Monster Drawing Rally.

Several local artists set up and create a piece from start to finish during the event.  As an observer to the event, you wander around the room, chatting with the artists and watching them create.  Throughout the event, there is a silent auction going on, and each piece made goes to the highest bidder at the end of the evening.

It was a packed house!  There was a DJ, drinks, light snacks, and lots of creative conversation!

(You might recognize the girl in the bottom right corner, that's Michelle.  She, myself and our friend Laura attended this event together)

The man in the photo above is the head graphic designer for Boulevard Beer, a local and beloved company here in KC.  He was 'doodling' on bottles of Boulevard Beer.

No idea who this guy was, he too was drawing on the beer bottles.  But when he looked up he definitely looked surprised to see us!  Perhaps he was caught up in his creativity!

The guy in the hat is a screen printer and graphic designer and has many clients in the area.  He screen-printed 20 copies of the piece you see hanging behind him drying.  I thought his piece looked bold and fun, so I put a bid on it.

I ended up winning the piece I bid on!

Here's my local KC piece of artwork!
