SNO.M.G!!! The Snowpocalypse happened yesterday in KC. And by Snowpocalypse, I do mean 1"-3". Yep. That's KC for you. The city shuts down! However, after yesterday, I will never again scoff at Mother Nature when she threatens snow on the day I'm supposed to fly out of town! Here were the events of my day:
It's so pretty...and looks harmless!
Yikes! There were probably 20 cars off the road on the trip to the airport.
Well, I guess the best place to be is near these guys!
Finally made it! Time was not a luxury today, so I decided to snap a picture because I knew a week later there would be a lot of head-scratching and wandering through the parking garage.
I have never seen the KC airport this crowded. This is the line to drop off the bags for people with boarding passes printed ahead of time.
This was the scene at our gate. Before cancellation #2 (cancellation #1 happened the night before). After cancellation #2, Orbitz automatically rebooked the tickets to the flight out that afternoon. Ok, things are still looking good!
Cancellation #3 happened. Orbitz could no longer help, as this was too big of an issue. So, it was time to hop back in line. I was in line and on the phone trying to get rebooked with Delta at the same time. It was about 1:30 by this point and I hadn't eaten yet. This guy's can of Pringles (standing in front of me in line) was starting to look really good. I seriously contemplated sneaking a few of them.
Now every flight out of Kansas City has been cancelled due to runway conditions. Everyone that had checked their baggage had to all swarm around 2 baggage claim carousels while all planes were unloaded - at once. The scene was insane. I don't think people understood that they weren't going anywhere today...no need to push, shove, swear, etc!
Seven hours later. Heading home for now. Roads are STILL not cleared!
The dogs are still at boarding, so the cats get me all to themselves! They had a very good night last night.
And today, the snow is still here, but starting to melt. Let's try this again...tomorrow! Florida, I'm (hopefully) coming for you!
