BUSY weekend! Yesterday we had the concrete guys here finishing up, the landscape guy here finishing up, and the deck guys here. They did not finish, they will be back tomorrow to complete the handrails...then it's DONE! Stay tuned for photos...
Jared and I had to wait until the landscaping was in so that we could figure out where we wanted the planters for our garden. That whole project happened this weekend. Again, photos to come!
With all of the landscaping and the size of garden we put in, we decided it was time to buy rain barrels. We found a guy up in North Kansas City on Craigslist that sells them assembled for a really good price. You can spend a LOT of money on these, they come in a lot of different designs. We decided to put them under the deck and because of this did not care what they looked like. They had to be functional, inexpensive, and hold a lot.
Jared borrowed a friend's truck and left the house at 5:45am Saturday morning to go pick up the barrels. He had to make a couple of trips for dirt, too...so that's why he had to go so ridiculously early!
The rain barrels come with an overflow spout, but we decided to piggyback two barrels together, so Jared had to break out the Dremel and fashion another hole.
The existing gutter had to be cut off and a new flex tube was installed and directed to the barrels.
Jared installed a hose stand and spigot at the end of the deck that is attached to the barrels so that we don't have to go under the deck to access them.
