First Few Weeks of our Farmer's Alliance

We've had 3 weeks now with our CSA, and so far we're enjoying it. We go once a week to pick up our items, and it's been a pretty good variety each week, bringing home 5-7 items (and being able to make a choice between items sometimes). It seems like the pattern is one expensive item (like the tofu), several medium priced items, and then one less expensive item (like the green onions).

The guy that runs our pick-up location was saying that due to the extreme winter and the wet spring we've had so far, the season has gotten off to a slow start, which we could tell because we were given a lot of lettuces and greens, quick growing items. But with items like asparagus (we had a choice between that and broccoli - wish we could've had both!) and strawberries this week, it looks as though we'll be getting more of the non-leafy things now.

week 3: asparagus, pink oyster mushrooms, strawberries, kale, salad mix, and radishes.

I had never seen a pink oyster mushroom. The woman at the pick up location was telling me that some people think the pink ones have a slight seafood taste to them. We shall see...

week:2 Several heads of different lettuces, green onions, tofu, kale, salad mix, and spinach.

These are the pea shoots from week one. I'd say they are similar to spinach (very tender) but slightly more bitter. We used them on sandwiches, mixed some in with salads, and sauteed the rest.

week1: 2 head of bok choy, pea shoots, oyster mushrooms, salad mix, and spinach
